Beef and Broccoli Recipe

Beef and Broccoli is a staple when it comes to Chinese Takeout. One of my favorites when ordering. Here is a version that I make that I love to eat! And the best part, it is so quick! Try it out and let me know.

NOTE: I'm still tweaking the recipe a little bit so leaves some comments below on how it tasted. I would love to get your feedback!

Serving Size: 1-2

Ingredients:

Velveting

  1. 1/2 lb of rib eye (flank and chuck are fine too)
  2. 1.25 tbs corn starch
  3. 1 tsp of baking soda
  4. 1 tsp of soy sauce
  5. 2 tbs of oil
  6. 1 tbs of water

Sauce

  1. 2.5 tbs of light soy
  2. 2 tbs chicken broth
  3. 1 tbs hoisin
  4. 2-3 tbs of brown sugar
  5. 2 tbs water
  6. pinch of black pepper
  7. 1/2 tbs of corn starch
  8. 1.5 tsp sesame oil

Stir Fry

  1. 1 head of broccoli
  2. 3 pieces of garlic minced
  3. 1/2 inch ginger minced

Directions:

  1. Cut beef into thin slices and all it into a bowl with all the other ingredients from the velveting ingredients. Mix that well and make sure to coat all the beef. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Set aside.
  2. From the sauce ingredients, add water and cornstarch into a separate bowl and mix. Add the rest of the sauce ingredients to a different bowl and mix well. Add in the cornstarch slurry into the sauce mixture and mix again till everything is combined. Set aside.
  3. Cut off the head of the broccoli and then cut down to each individual floret.
  4. Steam for about 2-3 minutes or less just until broccoli is vibrant green. We don't want it to soft here, we want it to have a little crunch. Take it out and set aside.
  5. Time to fry the beef. You can either shallow fry or deep fry the beef until 90% cooked. Deep-frying will take about 2 minutes, shallow frying a little bit longer.
  6. in a wok or large saucepan, heat up 1 tbs of oil and sauté garlic and ginger for about 2 minutes. Add in your sauce and let it simmer for about 2 minutes till sauce gets thickened.
  7. Add in beef and mix for about 1 minutes.
  8. Add in broccoli and mix till broccoli is lightly covered.
  9. Serve with white rice and enjoy.
