Chopped Cheese Recipe 🍔

When you think of NYC and Bodega the first thing that comes to mind is the infamous Chopped Cheese. My version of this sandwich elevates the sandwich to another level. 

Serving Size: 2-3   

Ingredients: 

Sandwich Ingredients: 

  1. 2 hero's 
  2. 2 lb. 80/20 Ground Beef 
  3. 1 whole white onion  
  4. 1 green bell pepper 
  5. 1 orange bell pepper 
  6. 1 tbs oil 
  7. 4 garlic cloves 
  8. 2 tbs Kashmiri chili powder (substitute: Paprika) 
  9. 1 tbs garlic powder 
  10. 3/4 tbs coriander powder  
  11. 1 tsp salt 
  12. 2 tsp black pepper 
  13. 2 packets of Sazon 
  14. 1 cup of mozzarella 
  15. 8 slices of cheddar 
  16. Shredded lettuce 
  17. sliced tomatoes

 Sauce Ingredients: 

  1. 4 tbsp of mayo 
  2. 2 tbsp ketchup 
  3. 1/2 tbsp pickle juice 
  4. 1/2 tbsp mustard 
  5. 1 tbs of siracha
  6. 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce  
  7. pinch of salt 

Directions: 

  1. Add all sauce ingredients to a bowl and mix together and set aside.
  2. Dice up onions, bell peppers, and garlic. 
  3. To a hot pan with oil, add in bell peppers and onion and cook down for 5 minutes. 
  4. Add in garlic and Sautee for 1-2 minutes. 
  5. Add in a pinch of salt, 1 tsp of pepper, 1 tbsp of Kashmir chili powder, 1/2 tbs of garlic powder, and 3/4 packet of Sazon.  
  6. Cook down till you have masala type, wet vegetable situation and move over to sperate bowl. 
  7. Add in your meat to a pan and season with 1 tbsp of Kashmiri chili powder, coriander powder, pinch of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, 1/2 tbs of garlic powder, and 1 packet of Sazon. 
  8. After about 2 minutes, flip and chop your meat and cook down for about 3-4 minutes. 
  9. Line up the meat in a thick line and top with mozzarella and cheddar and throw a lid on top and melt down the cheese. 
  10. Toast and add sandwich sauce onto the hero. 
  11. Remove meat from the pan and place on the hero and top with lettuce and tomatoes.
  12. Cut down the middle and enjoy!
